📚 Special Virtual Native American Author Visit at Crow Agency Public School 📚

Students at Crow Agency Public School recently had the opportunity to participate in a virtual visit hosted by librarian Elizabeth Bishop with award-winning Native American author and illustrator Michaela Goade.

Michaela Goade is an enrolled member of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska and is known for creating children’s books that center Indigenous stories and connections to land and culture.

She received the Caldecott Medal for illustrating We Are Water Protectors. She also wrote and illustrated Berry Song, which received a Caldecott Honor. During the visit, she also highlighted her newest book, Moon Song, which recently came out.

Students were engaged throughout the presentation and enjoyed learning about her art, storytelling, and the inspiration behind her work. She also shared a few words from her Native language with students, giving them a glimpse into the importance of language and culture in her work.

A special thank you to Lacey Gonzales and her department at the Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council for sponsoring and helping make this event possible. Ahóoh

We’re proud to celebrate 6 participants who successfully completed our Addressing Family Violence and Abuse class and received their certificates. Their commitment to growth, accountability, and building healthier families is truly commendable.

This class provided tools for recognizing harmful behaviors, improving communication, managing emotions, and creating safer home environments. Each participant demonstrated courage and dedication throughout the program.

Participant Reflections:

“Welcoming everyone, was open to learning and sharing.”

“Wisdom for you, we're here for you, safe place, you will feel closer to everyone at the end of the session.”

“I learned more on life bringing self aware, that the class didn't focus on ones belief, opened my eyes even more about myself and others.”

“I appreciate having a space where I could be honest and learn without feeling judged.”

“Thankful for the community outreach programs provided.”

We commend each graduate for their hard work and willingness to grow. Congratulations on this important achievement — your effort today helps create safer, stronger families tomorrow.
